In conversation with Juliana Yazbek | On Feminism, Femininity and Finding Home Within
Juliana Yazbeck is a Lebanese-American-British singer-songwriter whose mixed cultural upbringing
influences her signature sound: a genre-bending, multilingual and mesmerising fusion of haunting vocals, spoken word,
otherworldly electronics.
Dr. Maiada Aboud is recording a series of conversations on being a pirate pioneer woman* – socially,
artistically, and politically – as part of her project: Ascension – Intimate Bodies Forbidden Stories. First up is this
conversation with Juliana where they discuss feminism, femininity and finding home within. These chats shed the light on
lifting the veil: deconstructing restrictive gender roles, boundaries placed on femininity, and taboos surrounding menstruation and pain.
